At the beginning of the 1990s, US Army helicopter units from Katterbach, Illesheim and Giebelstadt also practised regularly in southern Middle Franconia.
Here are pictures of a field airfield set up over several days on a plateau south of Heideck. The pictures were taken at the time with a maximum focal length of 70 mm - I think this illustrates very nicely how close you could get to the machines.
